I (20, female/non-binary) am backstage at a ballet performance after performing a number in a royal blue tutu, but i had never practiced the routines. I know i’m supposed to be in a number with a green costume next but i can’t remember which one or when it is in the show. I’m running around backstage until I see Matthew (20, male), an old friend of mine who i haven’t seen or talked to in a while, but i consider to be my guardian angel and true love who got away. He is dressed as a stagehand. We hug and stand hip to hip, really close together, looking through the program to find what number i’m in next. He finds it and holds my hand, leading me around backstage to the stairs and elevators leading down to the dressing rooms. However, the stairs are filooded and there’s water rushing in and out of the elevator. When the water rushes out, he shoves me into the elevator and closes the door so i can get down to the dressing rooms. As it’s closing i shout to him to wait for me. I get down to the dressing rooms and find the green costume i was looking for laid out for me, but it’s different than i expected.
Dreams often reflect our subconscious thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and yours seems to carry a lot of rich symbolism. Here’s a breakdown of the key elements:
Backstage at a Ballet: This setting may symbolize your current state in life—perhaps you feel like you're in a performance or a role but aren't adequately prepared. It suggests feelings of stage fright or anxiety about being in the spotlight and the expectations that come with it.
Royal Blue Tutu: The color blue often represents feelings of calmness and stability, but in the context of performance, it might also reflect confidence and individuality. However, since you mention not having practiced, there could be a sense of vulnerability or fear of failing to meet expectations despite your outward appearance.
Running Around Backstage: This may indicate that you feel rushed or chaotic in your life, trying to find your place or purpose. It could represent a fear of not being able to keep up with your responsibilities or the pace of life.
Matthew as a Guardian Angel: The presence of Matthew signifies a connection to love, support, and protection in your life. Friends or romantic figures appearing in dreams can often represent your desires for connection or unresolved feelings. His role as a stagehand might suggest that he plays a behind-the-scenes role in your life, someone who supports your journey but isn’t always in the forefront.
Flooded Stairs and Elevator: Water in dreams represents emotions, and a flooded area could symbolize being overwhelmed with feelings or situations in your life. The elevator being flooded suggests you may feel trapped or unable to move up in a situation, needing to navigate emotional turmoil to find your way.
Shoving into the Elevator: Matthew's action of shoving you into the elevator could symbolize a protective gesture. He’s helping to guide you down, but it also reflects perhaps feelings of being pushed into situations prematurely or without your full consent, indicating a conflict between wanting support and desiring autonomy.
Finding the Green Costume: The costume change might suggest a transition or new phase in your life that you're beginning to discover. The fact that it's different from what you expected indicates uncertainty about this transition or feeling unprepared for the new role you are expected to play.
Overall, your dream may reflect feelings of anxiety about performance, the pressures of expectations, navigating personal relationships, and transitioning into new phases in your life. It seems to balance your desire for connection and support with a sense of feeling overwhelmed or unprepared for the changes that are happening. Consider reflecting on how these themes resonate with your waking life and what they might mean for your current situation or emotions.
